Trauma release exercises part 4

Updated: Feb 25, 2021

Social engagement

We have heard about social distancing to save lives a lot last year.

Today I want to write about social closeness. With your loved ones.

If you are lucky enough to have at least one person close to you who you can physically touch, do not hesitate to do so.

Through touch our nervous system soothes immediately.

Newborn babies need to be touched in order to survive. All mammals need physical contact, this is just how our nervous system is made.

So, put your hand on someone's shoulder today. Leave it there. See what happens.

Ask the person: what it is that you feel? How is this gentle touch for you?

Take your time with this trauma release exercise. Body awareness is everything when it comes to trauma release. If you don't feel anything, that is something too. Numbness is a trauma coping mechanism.

There is no desired outcome with this exercise. The aim is to feel the soft touch.
