Orange Picking in February - rural Portugal living

Updated: Feb 25, 2021

As a continental girl, I still feel explosive enthusiasm every time I see a palm tree, a fig tree or an orange tree.

It just never stopped to be exotic to me and exotic feels like one of the most positive words in my vocabulary: special, out of ordinary, new, fresh.

Now you can understand my enthusiasm when we went to pick the oranges that fell from the tree because a month ago there were some very cold days and they froze.

We picked them, the kids were helping, running around and tasted the juiciest, sweetest orange.

Plus I learned how to pick an orange without harming the tree. I cherish the knowledge that comes every day with new experiences.

And of course, we had a nice merienda afterwards with homemade cake…
